ELECTRICITY

The wiring at the Barn is truly intriguing. At one time the Barn was designed to get power from nearby windmills, and a couple of strange and assumedly windmill-related outlets are still present. Also present are ordinary seeming outlets that don't seem to be connected to the Barn's wiring -- in fact, half of the outlets and switches in the house seem to not do anything (although, as we found when a switch in the back of a closet accidentally disabled one of our main living room lights for a few weeks, this is not always the case).

Visitors often noted the power fluctuations that long-term Barn residents took for granted. Just turning on a toaster or a microwave oven would dim the lights all over the house noticibly. Starting up the dryer could drop the current level so dramatically that computer monitors and televisions would momentarily power off as their current level dipped.
